Instead of throwing your coins in a fountain

You would be amazed with the amount of money that pass through your hands and you don’t even realize it.   I know I am at fault of not wisely using my change.  I have even gotten to the point where I have tossed a few pennies on the ground so, that they would stop making noise in my pocket.

With the economy as tough as it is, you need to save every cent.   As a goal, start a collection of your loose change for something that you don’t necessary need like a new TV.  This is a good way to budget your money and to have self-control when it comes to impulse buys.

Teach the Big Banks that we aren’t going to blindly follow them

The “Too big to fall” banks have finally gone to far with their hidden charges and their big bonus.   People are now at the taking their money from these behemoth banks and going to smaller banks and credit unions.  And for doing this they are saving money.

The smaller banks may not be as accessible as these international banks, but they seem to be far more nice and understanding.   I have money in both types of banks and  I have always been happy at my credit union.   Give it a shot and show the banks who is really in control of the money.

Resolutions to Save Money

December 31, 2009 jaspereconomy Leave a comment

It is the time for your New Year’s Resolutions!  All my resolutions this year are going to be to help my bank account.   I am tired of this horrible cycle of money fears.

And since this is the time for lists and sticking to them… here is my list:

1. I am going to Iron and Starch my own shirts.  I know that they never look as good but that is a good amount of money that I could be saving.

2. Rent movies instead of seeing them in the theaters.  Hey, if I can rent a movie from Redbox for a dollar, there is no reason for me to spend a small fortune at the cinema.

3.  Make a grocery list and stick to it!   I am going to stop the impulse buy!

4. Going to the library instead of going to the bookstore.  Hey, why buy a book if I can read it for free.

The fear of checking your bank account during the holidays

December 21, 2009 jaspereconomy Leave a comment

I don’t know about you but I am really fearing looking at my bank account now that Christmas is near.   Ignoring it doesn’t mean that it goes away, so don’t live by the strategy of “See No Evil” because it will catch up to ya.

The tactic that will probably work out the best is budgeting what money you have left.   You just need to cut out the extra purchases that are nickel and dimeing you into the poor house.   Try doing little things like Carpooling and not going out to lunch, these will save you so much money but cutting out these little things.

Be a little Scrooge financially… just for one year!

December 11, 2009 jaspereconomy Leave a comment

I am not saying to become a miser and start shouting “Bah Humbug” but if you don’t fully embrace the full over commercialized holiday spirit, it will not be the end of the world.   I feel like a society we get caught more in what gifts we are buying and getting and less about what this holiday started out being.

If you look back into European Christmas history, Christmas was a time for family traditions and games.   There wasn’t any large gift exchange, there was family dinners and caroling.   That was a price friendly way of celebrating Christmas, what happened to those days.

So with the economic situation as it is now, I am starting of movement to return back to the simplistic traditions of Christmas.   Love Live the Revolution!!!

Well, it’s that time of year again, time for Thanksgiving and Black Friday, the two busiest days of my life. One day I spent cooking and eating the greatest food on Earth, then I have a midday nap and I get ready to stand out in the cold so that I can get amazing shopping deals.   Though, I have figure out a way to even get more off on my Black Friday sales.  My master plan this year is to get gift certificates that at a discount on sites like citydeals or others and then use them for payment on my items.  This is what I call a double bonus, a genius move on my part!

Little advice with creditors

October 29, 2009 jaspereconomy Leave a comment

Not that it was ever the plan but sometimes you fall behind with some bills.   It has happened to the best of us.  Hopefully, it was just a temporary thing and you are quickly out of it.   If it is not, I did find this article that helps out a little bit.

Are you being harassed by debt collectors?

by: Paul Robgher

In today’s society debt is an inevitability and is simply a fact of life. Gone are the days when many people can claim to never have gone into debt, and to have always saved up in advance for anything they particularly wanted. Neither are we entirely into the live now pay later society that was prophesised in the sixties. Most people are quite able to balance their lives, their desires and their income. Sometimes this means incurring a debt, and this is a completely acceptable way to live.

The problems begin when our debts become unmanageable. When something unpredicted happens in our lives that prevents us from servicing our debts as we had originally intended and promised, or if due to bad personal management or excessive greed we incur heavier debts than our income can sustain, then debt, instead of being life enhancing, turns tail and begins to dominate our lives in most unpleasant ways.

Enter the debt collectors, the organisations called upon by our creditors to recover their outstanding payments. Anyone who experienced this should seek debt advice without delay.

Debt collectors can cause considerable distress to those whom they chase for payment. Despite the fact that there are quite specific rules concerning what is allowed and what is disallowed when attempting to recover a debt, many debt collection agencies, even if they stay within the word of the law, often flaunt the spirit of these regulations.

Anyone finding themselves unduly harassed by these organisations is able to take a number of actions. Firstly they should check that the organisation is registered with the CSA. If it is, then a formal complaint can be made to the CSA. If the agency is not a member, then it might well be acting illegally, in which case you should seek advice. If you still do not get anywhere then you might be able to bring on a claim of harassment, certainly if the actions of the debt collector are intrusive to your life.
